Ollie's Crew

In 2021, on the day before his 5th birthday, we heard a vomiting noise very early in the morning and went to check on Oliver. We found Oliver unresponsive and his eyes stuck looking in one direction. He had his first seizure that lasted at least 7 minutes. We put him in the recovery position as we awaited paramedics. Oliver was found to have abnormal brain activity in his frontal lobe, however at this time we do not know the exact cause of his seizures. Many people live with abnormal brain activity and do not have seizures. Currently 60% of people living with epilepsy have no known cause for their seizures. After his next long lasting seizure, he was put on medication. He is lucky that his seizures are able to be controlled by his medication because one-third of people with epilepsy will not gain full seizure control with current available treatments. When Ollie started his treatment he had medication induced rage, aggressive outbursts, depression, and suicidal ideation. We worked diligently with the CCMC for months to control these side effects. This has changed Ollie’s life, nevertheless he is a strong and resilient kid who loves making artwork, sports, rainbows, hanging out with his brother, school, and his family. Currently 1 in 26 people in the U.S. will develop epilepsy at some point in their life and unfortunately, people can suddenly die from having seizures. Ollie’s Crew is walking to raise awareness and to support the epilepsy community.
