Despite great progress, stigma surrounding epilepsy continues to fuel discrimination. This can isolate people with epilepsy from the mainstream of society and create formidable barriers in many areas of life including education, employment, transportation and community engagement.
Fortunately, many civil rights laws including the Rehabilitation Act, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Americans with Disabilities Amendments Act (ADAA), Fair Housing Act and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) exist that promote equal access for people with disabilities including epilepsy.
Contact our office if you or a loved one is experiencing discrimination as a result of epilepsy and we can direct you to the appropriate community resource.
